DL/T 5219 - 2005

This type of verification originates from the Chinese standard DL/T 5219 - 2005. Unlike the cone method and the standard approach it introduces a critical depth hc, which depends on the type of soil and the shape of foundation. The "Verification on uplift" dialog window allows either inputting the critical depth hc directly or it can be determined by the program depending on the input type of soil and the shape of foundation according to table 6.3.1-1 - Critical depth hc.

Table 6.3.1-1 with the values of a critical depth based on the Chinese standard DL/T 5219-2005

Type of soil

Natural state of soil

Critical depth hc for tensile foundation

Circular foundation

Square foundation

Sand or Silt

Dense ~ Slightly dense

Clay

Hard ~ Stiff

Plastic

Soft - plastic

Note 1: For rectangular foundation, if the ration between length L' and width B is smaller than 3, claculate hc as circular foundation and D = 0,6*(B+L').

Note 2: The soil must be in a natural state.

The "Bearing cap." frame in the "Verification on uplift" dialog window serves to specify as another input parameter the cone angle α. The influence of a neighbour foundation is described in the cone method. The inclination of column θ has no influence on the calculation of bearing capacity of a footing in tension (the uplift resistance).
